Venous ligation
The basic purpose behind performing a venous ligation is preventing a venous leak. The veins which have been causing problems, i.e. hampering the flow of blood to the penis, are either removed or ligated (bound). This procedure is believed to let a good amount of blood to stay in the penis which could help in achieving sustainable and comparatively better erections. It has reported to be effective in improving the condition in around 40 to 50%, but on the flip side it may cause long term problems in rare cases.

The procedure of vascular surgery has been regarded experimental and is performed rarely. The reason being the risks involved. These include scarring of the tissue and damage to nerves. These two have been underlined as causes of impotence and hence the risk is even greater. Also as this procedure is not performed in large numbers, specialists with specific experience in vascular surgery may be difficult to find.
